NEW LONDON, N.H. – The Wheaton College (Mass.) women's tennis team was defeated by host Colby-Sawyer College, 9-0, this afternoon at Kelsey Tennis Courts in New London, N.H.

Ortiz was defeated at first singles by Colby-Sawyer sophomore Grace Carpenter (Milford, N.H.). Carpenter took the first set, 6-3, but Ortiz matched her with a 6-3 win of her own in the middle frame. Carpenter put the match away with a 6-0 win in the final set. Hogan pulled out the third set in the tie-breaker by a count of 10-4.

Ortiz and Mueller combined at number one doubles for an 8-4 loss to Carpenter and senior Emily Hill (Wilmington, Mass.). First year Kara Greenlee (San Antonio, Texas) paired with Lyon sophomore Izzy Kruse (Woodstock Ga.) at second doubles in an 8-2 loss to the Chargers duo of Hogan and junior Alyssa Owens (Grain Valley, Mo.). The sophomore tandem of Lily Tria (Westerly, R.I.) and Isabella Gutierrez Avendaño (Tegucigalpa, Honduras) downed Wheaton's first year entry at third doubles, Haylee Doiron (Lowell, Mass.) and Tessa Hammond (Edgartown, Mass.), 8-1.

Greenlee fell at number two singles for the Lyons to Owens, 6-0, 6-4, while Kruse was defeated at fourth singles by Colby-Sawyer's Hill, 6-2, 6-0. Wheaton junior Zoe West (New York, N.Y.) battled at number five singles, but came up short against sophomore Amelia Campanella (Chepachet, R.I.), 6-4, 6-4. Lyon first year Elsa Little-Gill (Hanover, Mass.) was defeated in her collegiate debut, 6-2, 6-3, at sixth singles to Tria.
