NORTON, Mass. -- Senior forward Sadie Recht (Los Angeles, Calif.) netted a hat trick to lead the Wheaton College (Mass.) women's soccer team to a 5-2 victory over visiting United States Coast Guard Academy this afternoon in New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference play at Mirrione Stadium on the campus of Wheaton College in Norton, Mass.

The Lyons improve to 7-6-1 overall and 4-3 in NEWMAC play, while the Bears fall to 5-6-2 and 2-4-1.

Prior to today's kickoff, Wheaton held a pre-game ceremony to honor the women's soccer program's senior class of Katie Regan (Melrose, Mass.), Julia Markmann (Sønderborg, Denmark), Recht, Mackenzie Hubbard (Kalaheo, Hawaii), Michaela MacCracken (Uncasville, Conn.), Trinity Cloud (Seekonk, Mass.), Nicolette Scinicariello (Douglas, Mass.) and Claire Donfield (Berkeley Heights, New Jersey)

Coast Guard opened up the match in the seventh minute of the first half as junior midfielder Chase Merrick (Tallahassee, Fla.) sent a blistering shot from 35-yards out that hit the top right of the net to put the Bears up 1-0. 

Recht's first marker came off of a give & go cross from Cloud in the 10th minute, before scoring again just three minutes later off of a penalty kick to give the hosts the 2-1 lead. First year forward Kate Wickenheisser (Oxford, Conn.) broke into the scoring column with a drive towards goal off of a pass from classmate Raquel Garces (Somerset, N.J.) to give Wheaton the 3-1 edge with 1:47 left befoer the intermission.

Recht used the benefit of a free kick to record her first collegiate hat trick in the 67th minute of play for her eighth goal of the season to give Wheaton the 4-1 advantage.

The final two scores of the day came in the game's last five minutes. 

The Bears added their second goal of the day off of a hard right cross from sophomore forward Riley Vicinanzo (Vestavia Hills, Ala.) to junior forward Karagan Bulger (Manahawkin, N.J.) who headed the ball passed the Lyons keeper for her fourth tally of the season. Wickenheisser matched the goal with the final marker of the day coming in the 88th minute for the Lyons as Wickenheisser broke through on a fast break and fired a shot past the goalie for her seventh goal of the season to seal the victory for Wheaton.

First year keeper Patricia Bandrup (Poway, Calif.) made three saves for the Lyons, while sophomore goalie Emily Scharnitzky (Charleston, S.C.) stopped seven shots for the Bears.

Wheaton returns to play when it travels to Springfield College on Wednesday, October 19 in NEWMAC action at 7:00 p.m. in Springfield, Mass., while the Bears are back in action on the same day when they travel to Eastern Connecticut State University at 6:00 p.m.
