Junior forward Brittney Righetti (San Francisco, Calif.) netted a pair of goals to lead the Lions.
Righetti scored both of her goals within 110 seconds of each other for Emerson. Her first marker of the afternoon came just 8:14 into the second half when she carried the ball down the right edge of the box and took advantage of the Wheaton keeper off her line, lifting a shot out of her reach and into the left side of the net. Righetti gave the Lions a 3-0 lead with her fifth goal of the season after being fouled by the Lyon keeper inside the box. She converted a penalty kick into the right side in the 56th minute of play.
Emerson got on the board in the 31st minute of play to take a 1-0 lead. Graduate student forward Caitlin Johnston (Phoenix, Ariz.) slipped a quick thru-ball to lead senior midfielder Ainslee MacQuarrie (Kensington, N.H.), who possessed the ball in mid-stride and fired a shot into the far right side of the net for the game's first score and her second of the year.
The Lyons cracked the scoring column in the 85th minute to make it 3-1 with 5:36 to play in the match. Senior forward Sadie Recht (Los Angeles, Calif.) possessed the ball with her back to the net at the top of the box and sent a short cross to first year midfielder Amanda Castaldi (Wallingford, Conn.), who unleashed a wicked shot to the far left post to elude the visiting keeper for Castaldi's second season marker and Wheaton's only tally of the day.
Junior goal Gabby Marcus (Austin, Texas) turned away one of three shots in the first 53:14 of play for the Lyons, before yielding to first year Patricia Bandrup (Poway, Calif.), who stopped three of four shots in the final 36:46. Sophomore keeper Amara Schaub (Torrance, Calif.) recorded four saves for the Lions.
