Norton, Mass. - May 1, 2021 - Wheaton College women's tennis warped up their 2020-21 season with a hard-fought, 5-4 victory over Clark University on Saturday afternoon in their New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) matchup. The victory gave Wheaton their first victory of the season, improving to 1-3, while Clark fell to 1-3.
Wheaton won the doubles matches 2-1, with the victories coming from duos of Alli Burton (Hingham, Mass.) and Miriam Galindo Cerrada (Madrid, Spain) (8-4), and Lexy Acosta (Albuquerque, N.M.) and Mareieke Mueller (Amesbury, Mass.) (6-0).
Wheaton and Clark split the singles matches at an even 3-3. Wheaton tallied victories from Galindo Cerrada (6-2, 6-1), Katie Steinberg (Cumberland, Maine) (6-0, 6-3), and Lizzy Michaud (Lewiston, Maine) (7-5, 6-2). Jordyn Paul (Belchertown, Mass.) came up short in the final set of her match, while Acosta fell in two tight sets as well.
