Box Score Norton, Mass.- April 3, 2021- The Wheaton College women's lacrosse team fell to Springfield College,16-14, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play on Saturday afternoon at Stagg Field in Springfield, Mass.
The Lyons were led by sophomore Jessie Kilburn (North Branford, Conn.) who recorded five goals, one assist and six draw controls while senior Danielle Trudeau (West Springfield, Mass.) and first year Avonlea LeBeau (North Branford, Conn.) each netted two. Seniors Casey Kaplan (Suffield, Conn.), Maggie Dymes (Croton-on-Hudson, N.Y.) and Emma Ford (York, Maine) tallied one apiece while junior Darien Webb (Hamden, Conn.) and sophomore Brooke Harvey (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) also scored once. Harvey also picked up seven draw controls for Lyons.
Senior goalie Jena Casman (Woodbridge, Conn.) made five of her nine saves in the first half after seeing 27 shots against The Pride.
The game was off to a fiery start with both teams scoring early. The first half featured seven ties and two leads with Springfield tying Wheaton's lead as they scored one with 2:30 left in the half to make it an even 9-9. The second half was a battle for the lead as both teams found the back of the net. Ultimately it wouldn't be enough for the Lyons who are facing their first deficit this season.
Springfield College was led by Gabby Fogg, Maddy Roy, and Taylor Pichel who scored five and four goals respectively. Goalie Colleen Browne made 12 saves on the day after seeing 34 shots.
Wheaton will return to action on Saturday, April 10th when the Lyons travel to Babson College in another NEWMAC battle. The game is set to begin at 1 p.m.
