Norton, Mass. – April 17, 2021 – The Lyons lost a hard-fought battle 6-3 to visiting Clark University Saturday afternoon in Beard Field House. With the loss Wheaton is now 0-2 in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) on the season.
Clark gained most of their wins in the singles matches, in which they outplayed the Lyons 5-1. The lone victory for Wheaton came from junior Miriam Galindo-Cerrada (Madrid, Spain), who won both her sets 6-4 and 6-1. The Lyons were stronger in the doubles matches, winning 2-1. Two-seeded Jordyn Paul (Belchertown, Mass.) and Elizabeth Michaud (Lewiston, Maine) won their match 8-5, while Alexis Acosta (Albuquerque, N.M.) and Mareike Mueller (Amesbury, Mass.) were victorious in the third-seeded contest in a convincing 8-2 fashion.
Wheaton is home again next Saturday, April 24 at 10:30 a.m. against NEWMAC foe Babson College.
