Norton, Mass.- March 27, 2021- The Wheaton College women's lacrosse team defeated Emerson College,16-1, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play on Saturday afternoon at Diane C. Nordin Field in Norton, Mass. 

The Lyons were led by sophomore Jessie Kilburn (North Branford, Conn.) who had five goals, one assist and eight draw controls. Senior Casey Kaplan (Suffield, Conn.) added three goals, three ground balls and three draw controls while senior Danielle Trudeau (West Springfield, Mass.) and junior Darien Webb (Hamden, Conn.) each netted two goals. Seniors Emma Ford (York, Maine) and Maggie Dymes (Croton-on-Hudson, N.Y.) along with first years Kendall Conwell (Weston, Fla.) andAbby Mountain (Niantic, Conn.) all scored one a piece for the Lyons. Senior goalie Jena Casman (Woodbridge, Conn.) picked up the win making two saves after seeing three shots. 

Kaplan scored her first goal a minute and 20 seconds into the game to give Wheaton a 1-0 lead. From there, the Lyons scored consecutive goals to put Wheaton ahead 7-0 at the end of the first half. The Lyons got out to a fiery start in the second half as an early hat-trick from Kilburn to give Wheaton a 10 goal lead. Wheaton slowed the pace for the remainder of the contest, scoring six straight down the stretch. Emerson was able to get one shot off with a minute and five seconds left in the game to make the final score 16-1. 

The Emerson College Lions were led by Lauren Longstreet (Alamo, Calif.) who scored the lone goal of the game. Sophomore goalie Nina Khosla (La Jolla, Calif.) made nine saves against 25 shots for the Lions. 

Wheaton will return to action on Saturday, April 3rd when the Lyons travel to Springfield College in another NEWMAC battle. The game is set to begin at 1 p.m.
