Box Score Norton, Mass. -- The Wheaton College women's lacrosse team defeated Clark University, 19-3, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play on Saturday afternoon at Granger Field in Worcester, Mass.
The Lyons were led by sophomore Jessie Kilburn (North Branford, Conn.) who had five goals, 10 ground balls and seven draw controls. Senior Casey Kaplan (Suffield, Conn.) added four goals while senior Danielle Trudeau netted three goals and two assists. Senior Emma Ford, sophomore Brooke Harvey, and first year Abby Mountain each netted two goals for the Lyons while first year Avonlea LeBeau netted one as well.
Harvey scored on a free position shot 44 seconds into the contest to give Wheaton a 1-0 lead. From there, the Lyons scored consecutive goals to put Wheaton ahead 11-0 with 7:09 remaining in the first half. Clark University scored two quick goals towards the end of the first half to cut the lead to 11-2 before Kilburn netted one more with one second remaining.
The Clark University Cougars were led by Elysia Hall, Sarah Byrn, and Anna Joyce who tallied one goal each. Sophomore Kiley Simmons scooped up a game-high 11 ground balls for the Cougars but it wouldn't be enough as the Lyons scored seven consecutive goals in the second half to make the score 19-3.
Wheaton will return to action on Saturday, March 27 when the Lyons host Emerson College in another NEWMAC battle. The game is set to begin at 1 p.m.
