Box Score WALTHAM, Mass. -- Senior forward Sadie Shore (Portsmouth, N.H.) scored a game-high 14 points to lead the Wheaton College women's basketball team in a 54-42 loss to Connecticut College this afternoon in the Consolation Game of the Brandeis Tip-Off Tournament at Red Auerbach Arena on the campus of host Brandeis University in Waltham, Mass. The Lyons fall to 1-3 on the season, while the Camels improve to 1-1.
Connecticut College took advantage of 22 Wheaton turnovers, outscoring the Lyons, 16-8 in points off turnovers, while holding them to 29.1% (16-55) shooting. Offense was hard to come by for the Camels as well with Wheaton holding them to just 32.3% (21-65) from the floor.
Shore added three rebounds, three steals and a pair of blocks to her day and was named to the All-Tournament Team for the Lyons, while first year guard Greta Minos (West Roxbury, Mass.) contributed with 12 points, including a perfect 7-7 from the free throw line to go with 14 rebounds for her second double-double of the season in addition to four assists and a pair of steals.
Junior guard Jaycie Rojik (Scituate, Mass.) led Connecticut College with 12 points on 6-12 from the field to go with seven rebounds and a steal. Senior guard Emily Tripp (Westport, Mass.) pulled down 10 rebounds and added seven points, four assists and two steals and sophomore forward Rebecca Oberman-Levine (Hamden, Conn.) also grabbed 10 boards and dropped in five points to go with four blocks, three steals and an assist.
The Camels jumped out to a 14-3 lead with 3:42 left in the opening quarter and finished the period with a 19-7 advantage. Connecticut College boasted a 28-13 lead with 2:01 remaining in the first half, before taking a 28-14 margin into the intermission.
Shore was the catalyst with eight points as part of a 15-5 run to start the second half for Wheaton and pull the team to within 33-28 with 4:20 showing in the third quarter. The Lyons stayed within 35-30, before the Camels ended the third quarter with a 39-30 cushion. Connecticut College maintained its margin througout the fourth quarter to come away with the victory.
Wheaton will return to action on Wednesday, November 17 when it travels to Milton, Mass. to take on Curry College at 5:30 p.m., while the Camels host Roger Williams University on the same night at 7:00 p.m.
