Box Score WORCESTER, Mass. -- The Wheaton College (Mass.) women's soccer team was defeated, 3-1, by host Clark University this afternoon in a New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference contest on Granger Field in Worcester. The Lyons fall to 7-6-3 overall and 3-4-2 in league play, while the Cougars improve to 10-5 and 6-2.
Clark posted a 16-6 shot advantage, including 9-3 in the opening half, while Wheaton held a 5-4 edge on corner kicks.
The Lyons got on the board first when junior forward Claire Donfield (Berkeley Heights, N.J.) tallied her second goal of the season in the 14th minute of play for a 1-0 lead.
The Cougars defense held Wheaton without a goal the rest of the way, while the offense found the back of the net three times.
Sophomore forward Imani Salazar (Brooklyn, N.Y.) scored her fifth marker of the year on an assist from first year back Isabel Echeverry (Pawtucket, R.I.) to knot the score at 1-1 for Clark in the 32nd minute. The Cougars took the lead, just over five minutes later, when first year forward Cassandra Trevino (Houston, Texas) netted the first of two goals in the match in the 37th minute to make it 2-1.
Trevino struck again for her third goal of the season when Salazar set her up in the 49th minute for the home team's third tally of the afternoon.
Sophomore keeper Gabby Marcus (Austin, Texas) made seven saves for Wheaton, while senior goalie Morgan Small (Quakertown, Pa.) did not record a stop in the match for Clark.
The Lyons will be in action again on Wednesday, October 27 when they head to Wellesley, Mass. to take on NEWMAC rival Wellesley College in the regular-season finale at 3:00 p.m., while the Cougars head to Springfield, Mass. to to play conference foe Springfield College on the same day at 7:00 p.m.
