Box Score NEW LONDON, Conn. -- The Wheaton College (Mass.) women's soccer team was defeated by host United States Coast Guard Academy, 3-1, this afternoon in a New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference match at Nitchman Field in New London, Conn. The Lyons fall to 7-5-2 overall and 3-3-1 in league play, while the Bears improve to 4-9-0 and 2-5-0.
Wheaton allowed three uanswered goals, including a pair of own goals, before it got on the board in the 82nd minute on senior midfielder Jaime Rattenni's (West Greenwich, R.I.) team-leading seventh goal of the season to make it 3-1.
The Bears got on the board first in the seventh minute with an own goal by the Lyons coming from a deflection from a Wheaton defender on a corner kick.
Coast Guard extended the lead 2-0 in the 31st minute when senior Brielle Pearce sent a volley over to junior Molly Huynh, who one-timed it in for her first goal of the season.
The third goal for the Bears came from another Wheaton own goal with a deflection off a defender's head, giving Coast Guard a 3-0 advantage in the 48th minute.
Coast Guard owned a 13-11 shot margin and had a 5-4 edge in corner kicks.
Sophomore goalie Gabby Marcus (Austin, Texas) made four saves for the Lyons, while sophomore goalkeeper Hope Drake-Duval (Loudon, N.H.) made six saves in the victory for the Bears.
Wheaton returns to action on Wednesday, October 20 when it hosts NEWMAC rival Springfield College at Mirrione Stadium at 3:00 p.m., while Coast Guard is back in action on October 23 at home against Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a noon kickoff.
