Box Score BABSON PARK, Mass. — The Wheaton College (Mass.) field hockey team was defeated by host No. 5 Babson College, 7-0, this afternoon in New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference action at MacDowell Field in Babson Park, Mass. The Lyons fall to 7-7 overall and 3-2 in league action, while the Beavers win their ninth straight contest to improve to 13-1 and 5-0.
Senior Millie Brady (Far Hills, N.J.) matched her career high with five points and Babson Head Coach Julie Ryan recorded the 200th win of her career.
Brady scored twice and junior Meara Hanyon (Broadheadsville, Pa.) added a goal and an assist as eight different players registered a point for the Beavers. Senior Lauren Curley (Stow, Mass.), juniors Brianne McGrath (Newmarket, Ontario) and Claire Nichols (St. Louis, Mo.), and first-year Jessica Evans (Southbury, Conn.) each scored once in the win.
Sophomore keeper Emma Lapreziosa (Bowdoinham, Maine) made a career-high 13 saves for Wheaton.
Senior goalkeeper Cassidy Riley (Niantic, Conn.) did not have to make a save in matching the program's all-time record with her 47th career win. The shutout was the fifth of the year and 18th of her career at Babson.
McGrath gave the Beavers a 1-0 lead just 5:04 into the contest by carrying the ball along the end line before dumping it into the back of the cage. Brady scored her first goal of the day at the 11:24 mark and then set up Curley's tally following a penalty corner to stretch the Babson lead to 3-0 with 1:24 to go in the first quarter.
Brady notched her team-leading 10th goal of the year 5:23 into the second and Evans put away a feed by first-year Camille Marsh (Englewood, Colo.) 2:03 into the third quarter, pushing the hosts' advantage to 5-0. Hanyon converted her sixth penalty stroke of the season just over three minutes later and Nichols scored off a rebound with 4:57 to go in the stanza.
The Beavers outshot Wheaton 30-0 and attempted 12 of the game's 13 penalty corners.
Wheaton returns to play when it hosts Massachusetts Institute of Technology in NEWMAC competition on Tuesday, October 19 at 7:00 p.m., and Babson is back in action on October 17 when it travels to New London, Conn. to play Connecticut College at 1:00 p.m.
