Box Score

BOSTON, Mass. -- The Emerson College women's soccer team scored a pair of second half goals to edge visiting Wheaton College (Mass.) this evening in a New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference match at Rotch Field in Boston, Mass. The Lyons fall to 7-4-2 overall and 3-2-1 in league play, while the Lions improve to 6-4-0 and 3-2-0.

Emerson owned a decisive 12-5 shot advantage, including 7-2 in the second half. The teams were each awarded four corner kicks for the match.

First year forward Lily Brown (Warwick, R.I.) scored her third goal in as many games on a crossing feed from classmate Nevaeh Petruzzi (Exeter, N.H.) to give Wheaton a 1-0 lead in the 22nd minute of play.

The Lyons led for the remainder of the half and early into the second session before the Lions got the equalizer in the 51st minute. Senior forward Grace Cosgrove (Sherman Oaks, Calif.) sent a lead pass to sophomore Simone Barragan-Shaw (San Francisco, Calif.) that she controlled and later found the back of the net for her second marker of the season and a 1-1 tie.

The contest remained knotted at a goal apiece until the 70th minute when sophomore forward Gina Lukoskie (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) sent a cross to first year defender Alianna West-Rodrigues (Waikoloa, Hawaii) that she lifted over the Wheaton keeper for the eventual game-winner for Emerson.

Sophomore goalie Gabby Marcus (Austin, Texas) stopped four shots for the Lyons, while first year keeper Amara Schaub (Torrance, Calif.) turned away the only shot she faced to earn the victory for the Lions.

Wheaton returns to the pitch on Saturday, October 16 when it heads to New London, Conn. to take on United States Coast Guard Academy in NEWMAC play at 1:00 p.m., while Emerson host Massachusetts Institute of Technology at 1:00 p.m.
