THE RUNDOWN:
- The Wheaton College women's tennis team returned to action Sunday afternoon with a non-conference contest against the Bates Bobcats, who are currently ranked 34th in the nation. It was the visitors who earned the win, taking down the Lyons 8-1.
- After sweeping Wheaton in doubles, the Bobcats took a 4-0 lead with the first singles point.
- Wheaton cut the deficit by one with a win from senior Ines de Bracamonte in No. 1 singles. de Bracamonte captured a 6-2 win in the opening set before winning the second 6-4.
- Miriam Galindo Cerrada had the Lyons best chance at another singles point, earning a 6-3 win over Suzanne Elfman in the opening set. In the second set the Lyons battled for every point but eventually fell 6-7 (4), before slipping in the deciding set 10-2.
UP NEXT: Wheaton returns to action on Tuesday, April 16 in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play with a 4 p.m. match at home against Babson.
