Women's Swimming & Diving Defeats UMass.-Dartmouth and NEWMAC foe WPI

LOCATION: Dartmouth, Mass. (Tripp Athletic Center) 

THE RUNDOWN:  

  • The Wheaton College women's swimming & diving team returned to action Wednesday evening, picking up wins over UMass.-Dartmouth (194-26) and New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) foe WPI (140-100) in the Tripp Athletic Center.

  • Eva Pet, Elizabeth Bernardy, Lydia DaCorte, and Maggie Lawler got things going with a win in the 200-yard medley relay, which saw the quartet finish with a time of 1:53.81.

  • Kayleigh Foley earned the Lyons a few points in the 1000 freestyle after finishing in third place with a time of 11:32.13.

  • Caitlin Daley and Delia MacLaughlin finished back-to-back in the women's 200 free with Daley winning the race in 2:01.84. MacLaughlin finished close behind with a time of 2:02.96. The pair also finished in the same order in the 100 free, this time with Daley touching in 56.05 and MacLaughlin in 56.60.

  • The seventh event of the night, the 50 free, saw a second place finish from Lawler (25.67), while Pet took third in the women's 200 IM (2:20.62).

  • Maddy Morrison earned Wheaton a first-place finish in the 1-meter dive with a score of 259.70. She returned to action later in the night, earning yet another win, this time in the 3-meter dive, with a score of 273.35.

  • DaCorte finished in second place in the 100 butterfly with a time of 59.78. The sophomore followed that with a win in the 500 free with a time of 5:13.66. Foley picked up points with a third-place finish after touching in 5:36.98.

  • Pet and Kathryn Cole finished in the top two spots in the 100 backstroke with Pet winning the race with a time of 1:01.61, while Cole took second with a final time of 1:02.39.

  • Bernardy won the 100 breaststroke for Wheaton, finishing the event in 1:11.17, while junior Erin Kean finished third with a time of 1:11.64.

  • Wheaton collected a win in the night's final event, the 200 free relay, with the team of Jesse Stewart, Emma Flesher, Holly Cohan, and Jessica Love finishing in 1:39.76.

UP NEXT: Wheaton returns home for its final home meet of the 2018-19 season on Saturday, Jan. 19 with a 12 p.m. dual against Tufts University.
