NORTON, Mass. - The Wheaton College men's swimming & diving team hosted the Jumbos of Tufts University Saturday afternoon in the Lyons final home meet of the season. The visiting Jumbos left with a 172-122 victory in Balfour Natatorium.
Wheaton opened the meet with a victory in the 200 medley relay with Jacob Cost, Jonathan Dunnett, Ross Johnston and Frederick Garneau finishing in two seconds faster than Tufts with a time of 1:36.76.
Cost and Dunnett went head to head in the 100 back with Cost pulling out the win with a time of 53.65, while Dunnett took home third (54.98). Dunnett collected a second-place finish in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:05.23. Samuel Zarfos and Todd Lambert finished back-to-back in the 100 breast with Zarfos finishing second (1:02.60) and Lambert third (1:04.15).
Garneau picked up a first-place finish in the 50 and 100 free, turning in a time of 21:87 in the 50 and a 49.60 in the 100. Raymond Bortolot finished the 50 free in third place (23.40). Chris Steward earned a third place time in the 100 fly, touching in 56.54.
Wheaton finished the 200 freestyle relay in second place with Jerard Fredette, Lambert, Bortolot and Garneau turning in a time of 1:29.57.
The Wheaton divers had a strong showing with Aaron Howe winning the 1-meter dive with a score of 305.78, while Ricky Davies turned in a third place finish in the 3-meter dive (266.70).
First-year Chris Stack posted a personal best in the 200 fly, while Zarfos ended the 200 breast with a season best. Stack and Kevin Silva concluded the 500 free with a personal best and season best respecitvely.
Wheaton returns to the pool on Saturday, Jan. 28 for a tri-match at Trinity (Conn.) with Connecticut College.
