WORCESTER, Mass. - The Wheaton College women's swimming & diving team defeated the UMass-Dartmouth Corsairs, 198-50, but fell to host WPI, 162-91, on Wednesday at the Sports & Recreation Center.
In diving, first-year Maddy Morrison made a big splash when she crushed another school record, this one in the three-meter dive with a final of 289.45. She previously broke this record back in October. Sophomore Katherine Conway followed in second at 254.85. Morrison also tabbed 274.70 for third place in the one-meter.
Wheaton's 400-yard medley relay 'A' team was guided by senior Kelley Baylis, senior Jess Ryabin, junior Jenna Hayden and first-year Caitlin Daley with a top time of 4:17.03. First-year Maggie Lawler led the way for the Lyons during the 200-yard freestyle where she timed in a final of 2:08.57. She later finished second in the 50-yard freestyle at 25.94.
Junior Alexa Resetar earned second place in the 100-yard backstroke when she clocked in at 1:03.88. First-year Elizabeth Bernardy went on to earn third place for Wheaton in the 100-yard breaststroke when she registered a final time of 1:11.27, just .25 seconds behind first place.
In the 200-yard butterfly, Hayden notched third place at 2:16.28 to continue momentum for the Lyons. She went on to place second in the 100-yard freestyle with a final of 56.19.
First-year Katherine Vitello (2:18.57), Reseter (2:18.89) and junior Joanna Zak (2:19.26) gave Wheaton spots two through four in the 200-yard backstroke while first-year Erin Kean and Bernardy placed second and third in the 200-yard breaststroke for the Lyons.
The 200-yard freestyle relay registered a big first place finish to begin to cap off the meet when 'B' team senior Emily Girard, sophomore Kate Dransfield, senior Claire Bollman and Bernardy concluded with a 1:50.59 final mark.
The Lyons host Tufts on Saturday with meet time set for 11 a.m. in Balfour Natatorium.
