Box Score NEW LONDON, N.H. - Junior captain Megan Healy netted a goal with two minutes left in the second overtime period to lift the Wheaton College women's soccer team to a 2-1 win over Colby-Sawyer Wednesday night.
After an even first half, Colby-Sawyer pushed ahead in the 72nd minute with a goal from Rachel Quaye. Quaye scored after an Abbie Sansoucy shot was deflected by Wheaton keeper Leann Wolf.
Down a goal and with time running out in regulation, senior captain Brooke Collard pulled her team even with a free kick at the top of the box in the 89th minute.
The game remained deadlocked through the first overtime period and through the majority of the second. Wheaton only allowed Colby-Sawyer to get one shot off in the final overtime, while generating most of the offense, resulting in Healy's team-leading seventh goal of the year. The Lyons began the all-out attack with a corner kick by Caren McCarthy in the 107th minute. Collard nearly netted her second goal of the game moments later with a header of the cross bar. Wheaton got the ball back a minute later with Healy receiving a stellar cross from Katharine Chura, which she swiftly headed into goal.
Wolf picked up her sixth win of the season, coming up with seven saves for the Lyons. Sam Mitchell picked up the loss for the Chargers after making six saves.
The win continued an eight game winning streak for the Lyons, while the Chargers fall to 1-5
Wheaton returns to the field on Saturday, Sept. 24 at 1 p.m. for a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) contest at WPI.
