NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - Earning their second straight New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) victory of the season, the Wheaton College women's tennis team topped the Smith College Pioneers, 6-3, on Saturday.
Sophomore Ines de Bracamonte and first-year Isabelle Garvanne notched the first win of the match for Wheaton when they went 8-3 in the No. 1 doubles spot. First-year Harley Swainston and junior Jodi Katz followed with a win of their own of 8-4 in the No. 2 slot.
In singles competition, Swainston recorded the first win for the Lyons as she knocked out Smith's competitor 6-4, 6-2. de Bracamonte continued Wheaton's hot streak when she marked a 6-4, 6-2 final of her own at No. 1 to put the Lyons within one to clinch. It was Garvanne's No. 2 spot that clinched the win for Wheaton when she posted a 6-2, 6-3 final.
Junior Arielle Klopsis sealed the final victory in singles for the Lyons when she registered 2-6, 7-6 (1), 10-2.
The Lyons compete again on Tuesday as they host the Emerson College Lions for another NEWMAC contest at the Clark Tennis Courts with action slated to begin at 4 p.m.
