Women's Soccer Defeats UNE 1-0

Box Score

BIDDEFORD, Maine - Junior Megan Healy registered her fifth goal of the season as the Wheaton College women's soccer team defeated the University of New England (UNE) Nor'easters, 1-0, on Tuesday at Barbara J. Hazard Field.

After a quiet start to the game with both teams entering undefeated, the Lyons (5-0) found an opportunity at 30:14 when UNE (3-1) received a whistle for a tripping foul in the box that gave Wheaton the opportunity for a penalty kick.

Healy took the penalty shot low and inside the left post, notching what would become the game-winning goal. This was Healy's fourth consecutive game with a goal who currently leads the team with 11 points. She also holds a .529 shots on goal percentage.

The Nor'easters attempted to gain control of the momentum with shots and corner kicks to begin the second half, but Wheaton's defense held them off. The Lyons had a few more scoring opportunities later in the half, forcing UNE's goalkeeper Brielle Robinson to make two saves.

Wheaton's goalkeeper Leann Wolf (3-0) tallied seven saves in the game to earn her second shutout of the season.

UNE held the 18-8 mark on shots and 9-5 advantage on corner kicks.

The Lyons compete again on Thursday as they host Simmons College with game time slated for 4 p.m.
