NORTON, Mass. - The Wheaton College women's tennis team earned their first New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) win of the season when they defeated the Springfield College Pride, 5-4, on Saturday at the Clark Tennis Courts.
Earning the first nod for the Lyons (1-1) was sophomore Ines de Bracamonte and first-year Isabelle Garvanne who won their match, 8-3, in the No. 1 spot to start doubles play. Junior Jodi Katz and first-year Harley Swainston notch Wheaton's second win of the match when they posted an 8-6 final in the No. 2 spot.
de Bracamonte (6-0, 6-2) and Garvanne (6-3, 6-2) each registered a win in their singles match competing in the No. 1 and No. 2 slots as the Lyons maintained momentum.
It was Swainston in the No. 5 singles position who dished out the match-winning victory when she listed a 7-5, 6-4 final mark to seal the victory for Wheaton.
The Lyons travel to Smith College for another NEWMAC competition on Saturday, Sept. 17 starting at 1 p.m.
