NORTON, Mass. – The Wheaton College women's lacrosse team earned its first shutout of the season on a rain soaked Saturday, defeating the Coast Guard Academy 16-0 in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action at Nordin Field. 

The win moves the Lyons to 5-5 on the season and a perfect 2-0 in the NEWMAC, while the Bears fall to 2-7 overall (0-2 NEWMAC). 

Jenna Tewksbury potted a game-high three goals to go with six draw controls and two groundballs. Senior Allie Bush ended the day with two goals and a season-high five assists. The Lyons Angela Mallis, Hannah Gasperoni, Katie Peters, and Brooke Sabol also finished the contest with two goals apiece. 

First-year Maddy Lahm and seniors Katherine Kowal and Madison Cohen also netted goals for the Lyons. 

Mallis led the team in groundballs with eight, while Sabol picked up seven. 

Molly Witten earned her fifth win of the season after playing nearly 40 minutes in goal for Wheaton, coming up with just one save on one shot faced. Galicia Rothe also saw time in net for the Lyons. 

Bear sophomore goalkeeper, Angela Fay, came up with 10 saves on 26 shots faced in 60 minutes of action. 

Coast Guard junior midfielder Sierra Web led the Bears with two caused turnovers, while also picking up two groundballs. Kaitlin Dickson and Kira Dabrowski led the Coast Guard with three groundballs each. 

The Lyons outshot the visitors, 35-6, while collecting 29 groundballs and winning 13 of the 17 draw controls. The Bears finished 4-of-9 in clears, compared to the Lyons who were 1-of-2. 

Wheaton returns to the field on Wednesday, April 6 with a NEWMAC contest at Mount Holyoke. The game is set to start at 6 p.m.
