SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The Wheaton College women's swimming & diving team defeated Keene State College, 207-91, but fell to Springfield College 170.5-129.5 on Saturday.
The Lyons were led by senior Kelley Baylis, first-year Erin Kean, junior Aleza Epstein and first-year Caitlin Daley in the 200-yard medley relay when they registered a first place time of 1:53.54. Wheaton carried their momentum into the 100-yard backstroke when they recorded four out of the top five finishes thanks to Baylis (first), sophomore Kathryn Cole (second), first-year Katherine Vitello (fourth) and sophomore Jesse Stewart (fifth) with Cole earning a season-best.
Battling it out in the 100-yard breaststroke, first-year Elizabeth Bernardy claimed second at 1:12.69 with sophomore Rowan Rice in fourth and Kean dishing out fifth place. Baylis continued her first place spree into the 200-yard backstroke with a final time of 2:16.20 for a season-best.
First-year diver Maddy Morrison swept board for Wheaton when she earned first place in the one-meter (242.80) and three-meter (237.45) dives. The Lyons closed out the meet with a powerful first place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay with first-year Maggie Lawler, sophomore Tayla Slater, Epstein and first-year Caitlin Daley clocking in at 1:42.12.
Wheaton travels to the MIT Invitational Friday, Dec. 2- Sunday, Dec. 4.
