WORCESTER, Mass. - After sweeping doubles, the Wheaton College women's tennis team went on to defeat the Clark University Cougars, 8-1, on Saturday for a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) win.
The Lyons earned their fourth NEWMAC victory and locked up the five seed in the conference.
Sophomore Ines de Bracamonte and first-year Isabelle Garvanne won the No. 1 spot to start doubles competition for the Lyons with an 8-3 final. Junior Jodi Katz and first-year Harley Swainston went on to win 8-3 at No. 2 while junior Arielle Klopsis and sophomore Connor O'Keefe concluded doubles with an 8-0 victory.
In singles, de Bracamonte continued her win streak by clutching a 6-2, 6-0 final in No. 1 with Garvanne hitting a 6-2, 6-2 final at No. 2. Katz (No. 3), O'Keefe (No. 4) and Swainston (No. 5) all went on to sweep the Cougars and seal the match victory.
The Lyons compete next at the NEWITT's from Friday, Oct. 14 through Sunday, Oct. 16.
