NORTON, Mass. - Putting forth a hard fought battle, the Wheaton College women's tennis team fell just short to the Endicott College Gulls, 5-4, on Wednesday at the Clark Tennis Courts in a non-conference match.
In doubles competition, sophomore Ines de Bracamonte and first-year Isabelle Garvanne recorded the only victory for the Lyons in No. 1 when they defeated Endicott's Hayley Barnett and Maxine Bergstein, 8-5. The Gulls went on to win 9-7 at No. 2 and 8-3 at No. 3 to conclude doubles.
In singles, de Bracamonte and Garvanne continued their win-streak when they each notched wins in their contests with de Bracamonte earning a 6-1, 6-2 final at No. 1 and Garvanne tallying a 6-0, 6-1 final at No. 2. First-year Harley Swainston was the final Lyon to compete in the evening, earning Wheaton one more win as she defeated Endicott's Mackenzie Rhodes 3-6, 6-4, 10-4.
The Lyons travel to Clark University for another New England Women's and Men's Athletic (NEWMAC) contest on Saturday with match set for 1 p.m.
