SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. - Competing as the fifth seed in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Quarterfinals, the Wheaton College women's tennis team battled the No. 4 seed Mount Holyoke College Lyons, dropping the match 5-0.
Mount Holyoke went to claim a 3-0 mark in doubles when Ayame Yazawa and Ching-Ching Huang defeated sophomore Ines de Bracamonte and first-year Isabelle Garvanne, 9-8 (7-3), in the No. 1 spot. Mount Holyoke's Alexa Colas and Catherine Peabody later claimed an 8-3 win against junior Jodi Katz and first-year Harley Swainston at No. 2 and concluding play in the No.3 position, Amy Chen and Clara Wang topped junior Arielle Klopsis and sophomore Connor O'Keefe 8-1 to complete the sweep of doubles.
Mount Holyoke tallied their final wins of the match in singles play in the No. 6 (6-0, 6-0) and No. 4 (6-2, 6-1) slots.
Wheaton returns back to the court during their spring season, opening action on Saturday, March 4 at Bates College with action beginning at 4 p.m.
