Men's Soccer Defeats Emerson 5-1

Box Score

NORTON, Mass. - Four second half goals lifted the Wheaton College men's soccer team past visiting Emerson College, 5-1, Saturday afternoon in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) contest at Keefe Field.

Wheaton (9-6-1; 2-2-1 NEWMAC) held the majority of the possession and did well to capitalize on its opportunities to pull away from Emerson (4-8; 1-4 NEWMAC).

Despite outshooting the the visitors 27-5, it was Emerson who got on the board first with a goal from Gavin Faucette in the 21st minute. Faucette received the ball from the right side of the field and dribbled his way into the box where he drained the ball into the right netting.

Senior captain Kevin Davis equalized in the 33rd minute with help from Brady Smith. Smith sent the ball to the far post where Davis headed it past the Lion keeper.

First-year Roni Diniz put away the Lyons game-winner in the 66th minute. Davis added his second goal of the contest in the 82nd minute after taking advantage of a miss clear by Emerson. Wheaton continued to put the pressure on, using the entire field for its fourth goal. Building out of the back, the ball made its way to senior captain Amara Sesay in the midfield who broke away from the pack defeating the Emerson keeper one-v-one.

The Emerson helped Wheaton score its final goal of the game with an own goal.

Lucas Fischer made seven saves for Emerson in 90 minutes of work, while Wheaton goalkeeper Erik Wisniewski came up with one.

Wheaton returns to the field on Saturday, Oct. 22 for a NEWMAC contest at Coast Guard. The match will start at 2 p.m.
