Late Goal Lifts Emerson Over Women's Soccer

Box Score

BOSTON, Mass. – The Wheaton College women's soccer team fell at Emerson College, 1-0, Tuesday night in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) contest.

The teams battled through two scoreless periods, despite Wheaton outshooting Emerson 15-5 during regulation. Overall the Lyons outshot the host team 15-6.

It wasn't until the 93rd minute that either team was able to put the ball away. Paige Haley scored the game-winning goal for the Lions, after collecting the ball from inside the left post and firing her shot into the bottom right corner.

Sophomore Leann Wolf ended the game with four saves in goal for Wheaton, while Melanie Escobar made seven for Emerson.

Wheaton's best chance at goal came in the 88th minute when junior captain Megan Healy thought she had put the Lyons ahead 1-0 after beating Escobar high. Unfortunatley, the goal was waived off due to an offsides call.

Wheaton returns to action on Thursday, Oct. 13 at 3 p.m. at Lasell.
