NORTON, Mass. - The Wheaton College women's tennis team fell 9-0 to New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) opponent Wellesley on Tuesday evening in the Beard Field House.
The Lyons are now 3-3 on the season and 2-2 in conference play, while the Blue are 5-2 overall and 4-1 in NEWMAC action.
In doubles, Izzy Gorham and Caroline DiNicola-Fawley fell 8-1 in the No. 1 position to Emily Olson and Justine Huang. The Lyons fell 8-0 in both No. 2 and No. 3 doubles.
Gorham finished her singles match first, falling to Carina Chen 6-0, 6-0. Stassy Furber was the next to finish, dropping her match 6-1, 6-1 to Tristan Lorich as the Lyons No. 3. DiNicola-Fawley once again met up with Olson, losing 6-2, 6-2 in the No. 2 spot.
Caroline Stanclift and So Jin Ki battled it out in the No. 4 spot with the Blue coming out on top 6-1, 6-2. Arielle Klopsis fell 6-2, 6-0 in the No. 6 singles position, while Connor O'Keefe dropped both her sets 6-3 as the Lyons No. 5.
Wheaton returns to the courts on Friday, Oct. 2 at 3 p.m. against Emerson at Victory Field in Watertown in a NEWMAC showdown.
