Box Score NORTON, Mass. – The Wheaton College women's soccer team made a strong impression in their season opener against Worcester State University as they defeated the Lancers, 3-1.
Both teams maintained a scoreless first half, but the Lyons came in strong as first-year forward Logan Ahearn scored the first goal on the 48th minute, she was assited by sophomore forward/midfielder Megan Healy.
In the 58th minute, senior forward/midfielder Julia Cipriano kept the momentum up for Wheaton as she shot her own goal to push the Lyons ahead 2-0.
Sophomore forward Carly Costello didn't let up as she took her turn at a goal, shooting one in the net during the 67th minute to make it 3-0.
The Lancers pushed in a goal with eight minutes remaining in the game, but it wasn't enough as the Lyons came out victorious in their first game of the season.
First-year goalkeeper Leann Wolf got the win, collecting four saves in her first career game.
The Lyons (1-0) travel to Bridgewater State on Saturday in a non-conference matchup at 1 p.m.
