NORTON, Mass. -The No. 24 ranked Wheaton College women's soccer team extended its undefeated season by beating the University of New England Nor'easters, 2-0, on Tuesday. The Lyons move to 5-0 overall and are currently ranked sixth in the NSCAA Division III New England Region poll. The Lyons are also ranked 24th in the nation according to the most recent D3soccer.com Women's Top 25 poll.
Wheaton started off the game with strong momentum, tallying three shots in the first eight minutes. The Lyons finally got their break when senior Tess Weyburne set up the shot perfectly for sophomore Sarah Buckley who knocked it in for the first goal of the game in the 15th minute.
Wheaton held the University of New England to a minimal time on their side of the field.
In the second half, the Lyons maintained their offensive drive as Weyburne took a shot just wide and senior Julia Cipriano knocked a shot off the goal post.
Sophomore Megan Healy then gave Wheaton their cushion goal as she shot one through the net during the 51st minute to bring the score up, 2-0.
The Lyons outshot the Nor'easters 10-2.
First-year goalkeeper Leann Wolf got her fifth win of the season, shutting out the past four opponents.
The Lyons travel to Brandeis on Thursday hoping to extend their win streak with game time set for 7 p.m.
