Two Goals Lifts Babson Over Women's Soccer

Box Score

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Two second half goals helped lift the Babson College women's soccer team to a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Tournament victory over Wheaton College on Saturday afternoon at MIT.

With the win the Beavers improve to 13-3-4 on the season, while the Lyons move to 14-6-2.  The Beavers now advance to the NEWMAC Championship game against defending champs Springfield on Sunday, Nov. 8 at 1 p.m.

The first half was a fairly quiet back and forth with the Beavers outshooting the Lyons 4-3. Wheaton's best chance at goal came in the 18th minute with a shot from Aunyes Hermantin that forced a save from the Babson keeper.

Babson had a chance at goal in the 40th minute when a shot by Olivia Kerester was blocked off a corner kick.

The Beavers finally broke through in the 59th minute with a goal by Jessica Fernandes. Kelsey Ford setup the play, finding Fernandes for her first goal of the season.

It would take another 20 minutes before Babson found the net again. Emma Dineen ended the scoring in the 81st minute with an unassisted goal that made its way into the top left corner. The goal is her third of the season.

Elizabeth Mycock collected the complete game shutout victory for the Beavers after being forced to make just three saves. First-year Leann Wolf also ended the contest with three saves for the Lyons.

Babson outshot Wheaton 12-8, while also holding a 4-1 advantage in corners.

The Lyons still have a chance to compete in the postseason with an at-large bid.
