NORTON, Mass. - The Wheaton College field hockey team earned a 5-1 win over visiting Elms College on Thursday night at Nordin Field in a game dedicated to Cancer Awareness Month.

The Lyons improve to 7-5 on the season, while the Blazers fall to 1-10 overall.

Dressed with pink ribbons and pink accented gear, the Lyons wasted no time getting the scoring started. Sophomore Brooke Dugan netted Wheaton's first goal of the night at the 5:20 mark with a shot from the center of the circle. Kelsey Buckley followed suit with a goal just 30 seconds later that was setup by a stellar pass from sophomore Hannah Southard.

Five minutes later JoAnn Bourgoin found Jordan Brazis-Eberle, who slotted the ball past the Blazer defense and into goal. The Lyons made it a 4-0 contest with a Hailey Kohler goal right before halftime. The goal came off a penalty corner taken by sophomore Mikaela Coombs, who pushed the ball to Amelia Gage at the top of the circle, who then found Kohler.

Madison Messier earned a goal back for Elms at the 47:40 mark after beating her defender in a one-vs-one battle and drawing out the Lyon keeper.

Bourgoin ended the scoring in the 56th minute with a goal of her own. The first-year put the ball in after finding herself open at the post.

First-year Emily Curran earned the complete game win for Wheaton, coming up with three saves. Marissa Mizzone collected the loss for Elms in her first game of the season in goal.

Wheaton outshot Elms 16-6, while having an 8-4 advantage in penalty corners.

Wheaton returns to action on Oct. 17 at Clark University for a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) contest. The game is set to begin at 12 p.m.
