BABSON PARK, Mass. – The Wheaton College women's tennis team traveled to Babson on Tuesday afternoon for a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference match, which saw the Beavers defeat the Lyons 9-0.
With the loss Wheaton falls to 4-5 on the season and 3-4 in conference action, while Babson improves to 8-1 overall and 5-1 in the NEWMAC.
Doubles play saw Izzy Gorham and Caroline DiNicola-Fawley (No. 1) and Caroline Stanclift and teammate Stassy Furber (No. 2) fall 8-1 to their opponents. The Lyons No. 3 duo, Arielle Klopsis and Connor O'Keefe, fell to Babson's Claire Foster and Kylie Kam 8-0.
DiNicola-Fawley (No. 2) and Furber (No. 3) each fell 6-1, 6-0 in their singles matches, while Stanclift fell 6-0, 6-0 as the Lyons No. 4 individual. O'Keefe lost her match 6-0, 6-1 as Wheaton's No. 5 and Gorham dropped her match 6-1, 6-1 as the No. 1. Playing as the teams No. 6, Klopsis lost her first set 6-0, before losing the second one 6-3.
Wheaton returns home for its next match, hosting Clark University at the 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 10.
