Lyons Nipped in Double OT

Box Score

NORTON, Mass. – The Wheaton College men's soccer team utilized all their efforts through double overtime, but couldn't come back to defeat the Trinity College Bantams as they fell, 3-2, on Tuesday at Keefe Field.

The Lyons (8-5, 2-1 NEWMAC) were quick to get on the board during the first half as Amara Sesay knocked in a goal during the sixth minute, this was his sixth goal of the season. He is now tied with Noah Kossoff in goals. Sesay was assisted by Kevin Davis. Davis picked up his second assist of the season.

The Bantams (4-4-2, 1-4-1 NESCAC) were quick to respond as they put through their own goal 12 minutes in the game to tie it.

Louis Chavez put forth a shot for Wheaton that tipped the post and stopped just short of a goal. The Lyons tallied a few more shots after that from Sesay, Curran Wait, Shawn Suzuki, Kevin Gil, Michael Cronin and Sanjit Basak-Smith as they sustained possession and looked to take the lead.

It was in the second half when Steven Pinski found the next big opportunity for Wheaton and crushed in his goal to bring the Lyons up, 2-1, in the 50th minute. His second goal of the season. Pinski was assisted by Kossoff, who collects his eighth assist of the season.

Identical to the first half, Trinity found the momentum again and tied up the game for the second time in the 55th minute off a penalty kick.

Wheaton's defense held strong as they deflected and blocked shots from Trinity to hold them off and move into overtime.

In the first overtime, Pinski took the lone shot for the Lyons as he fell just wide of the net.

Entering the second overtime, the Bantams held possession of the ball for the majority of the time, taking shots until they finally caught a break through and put in the game winning goal in the 103rd minute.

Trinity goalkeeper Domenic Quade received the win and moves to 1-1 overall.

Wheaton goalkeeper Matt Dickey moves to 4-5 overall, collecting eight big saves throughout the four periods.

The Lyons remain at home and enter back into conference play on Saturday against MIT (8-1, 3-0 NEWMAC) with game time scheduled for 1 p.m.
