Women's Soccer Shuts Out Clark for Senior Day Victory

Box Score

NORTON, Mass. – With a vibrant all-around game, the Wheaton College women's soccer team shutout the Clark University Cougars, 7-0, as the team seized their fifth straight win. Before the game kicked off, Julie Beyar, Julia Cipriano, Alyssa Gilman, Allison Lizotte, Carina Thomas, Tess Weyburne and Taylor Wilson were honored by the team for Senior Day.

The Lyons improve to 12-5-1 overall and 5-2-1 in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) competition. Clark falls to 2-12-2 overall and 0-7-1 NEWMAC. Wheaton is currently ranked third overall in the NEWMAC, right behind Babson College and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Just four minutes in the first half, Cipriano found an open Gilman who took a shot that bounced right off the post, but was quick to rebound it and headed it in for Wheaton's first goal of the game. Caren McCarthy followed Gilman's lead by heading in her own goal ten minutes later off a right side crossover pass from Cipriano.

The Cougars put forth three shot attempts, but missed just wide and were deflected by Wheaton defenders.

Cipriano went on to tally her third assist of the game as she passed the ball to Megan Healy who found an opening in the top center of the net to push the Lyons ahead, 3-0. This was her fourth goal of the season.

Later on in the 33rd minute, Cipriano nailed in her 11th goal of the season off her own rebound. With this goal, she becomes just the tenth Lyon to be inducted into the 100 Point Club within the women's soccer program. She currently holds 101 overall career points.

The second half was just as lively for the Lyons as Aunyes Hermantin kept the momentum going with a pass to Logan Ahearn who shoved in the fifth goal of the game in the right side of the net.

During the 84th minute, Brooke Collard crossed a pass to Carly Costello who drove in a goal bringing the Lyons up, 6-0.

For the final goal of the game, it was Ahearn who found an open Katie Clay-McBee who shot it in off the left post and sealed Wheaton's biggest victory margin of the season.

Wheaton's defense blocked the remainder of Clark's shot attempts as they clutched the 7-0 win and outshot the Cougars 19-13.

Goalkeeper Wilson (3-1) received the win for the Lyons with three saves.

Wheaton hosts No.1 NEWMAC ranked Babson College (12-3-3, 5-1-3 NEWMAC) in an important matchup slated for 3:30 p.m.
