Gil's Hat Trick Sparks 6-2 Victory Over Emerson

Box Score

BOSTON, Mass. – Maintaining an offensive domination throughout the whole game, the Wheaton College men's soccer team crushed the Emerson College Lions, 6-2, as Kevin Gil grabbed his first hat trick with Michael Williams and Noah Kossoff scoring the remainder of the goals for the Lyons on Saturday.

This win moves the Lyons to 9-7 overall and 3-2 in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) competition. The loss for Emerson drops them to 4-10 and 0-5 in the NEWMAC. Wheaton is currently ranked fourth overall in the conference with nine points, just under Springfield College.

The Lyons went to work as they scored three goals in each half. Gil was the star in this game as he netted in three goals of his own, the first one coming in the fifth minute which was placed perfectly to give Wheaton the 1-0 advantage at the start.

Williams was quick to add an additional goal for Wheaton just five minutes later as he took a pass from Curran Wait that pushed the score up, 2-0. The Lyons wouldn't stop there in the first half as Gil found his second opportunity for a goal in the 32nd minute that he knocked in to cap off a dominating 45 minutes of action for Wheaton.

During the second half, Louis Chavez connected with Kossoff who belted in the fourth goal for Wheaton in the 58th minute. Kossoff leads the team in goals scored, currently holding seven as Chavez secured his third assist of the season.

Emerson responded later in the half with two goals of their own to lessen Wheaton's lead at 4-2, but that wouldn't be nearly enough as the Lyons later tacked on two more goals.

Gil sealed his hat trick with his third and final goal of the contest in the 77th minute to make it 5-2. This was his fifth goal overall on the season and was his highest scoring game of his career while tallying six points. But the Lyons wouldn't settle there as Williams pushed through the final goal of the matchup to bring the final up, 6-2, and to complete Wheaton's highest scoring game of the season.

Goalkeeper James Bailey advances to 5-1 overall while collecting five big saves.

Wheaton outshot Emerson 21-11 and held a 3-1 advantage at the corners.

The Lyons bring the action back home next Saturday as they continue NEWMAC competition against the U.S. Coast Guard Academy with game time slated for 1 p.m. at Keefe Field.
