WATERVILLE, Maine – The Wheaton College women's tennis team ended the regular season on Sunday afternoon with a match at Colby College with the Mules pulling out a 9-0 victory.
The loss drops the Lyons to 5-6 on the season.
Wheaton's best chance at a point came in No. 5 singles with Connor O'Keefe taking Holly Bogo to three sets. O'Keefe won the opening set 7-6, before dropping the second 1-6. In the deciding set Bogo managed to capture the advantage, winning 16-14.
Caroline DiNicola-Fawley (No. 2) and Stassy Furber (No. 3) each dropped their singles sets 6-0, 6-0, while Izzy Gorham (No. 1) lost her match 6-1, 6-0. In No. 4 singles, Caroline Stanclift lost to Aleks Piibe 6-1, 6-1. Arielle Klopsis rounded out singles action with a 6-0, 6-2 loss to Katie Ryan in the No. 6 spot.
In doubles, Gorham and DiNicola-Fawley lost 8-1 in the top spot, while O'Keefe and Klopsis lost 8-0 in the No. 3 position. Furber and Stanclift put up a fight in the No. 2 position, but ultimately fell 8-4.
Wheaton returns to the courts on Oct. 16 for the NEWITTS.
