Men's Soccer Pushes Winning Streak To Four-Straight, Upends Keene State, 7-0

Box Score

Blair moves into second place all-time on career points list

KEENE, N.H. – The Wheaton College men's soccer team claimed its fourth-straight victory of the season and also ran its shutout streak to 285:11 consecutive minutes as the Lyons turned away Keene State College by a 7-0 score on the road at the Owl Athletic Complex on Saturday afternoon.

For the second time this season, Travis Blair (Hastings, N.Y./Hastings) scored less than two minutes into a match as the senior forward found the back of the net for the 40th time of his career off a feed from classmate Scott Enman (Brooklyn, N.Y./Packer Collegiate Institute) just one minute and two-seconds into today's contest. Earlier this year on August 30, Blair also registered a tally just 36-seconds into the Lyons' match versus Saint Joseph's (Me.), a 6-0 triumph for the Blue and White.

Blair also added an assist on Ben Altneu's (Orleans, Mass./Nauset Regional) third goal of the season in the 14th minute to push him into second place all-time on the career points list at Wheaton. Blair, who surpasses All-American Yuri Moreira '11 (44g, 8a, 96p) on the list, currently has 40 career goals and 17 assists for 97 points.

Noah Kossoff (New York, N.Y./Birch Wathen Lenox School), Steven Pinski (Croton-on-Hudson, N.Y./Hendrick Hudson), Matheus Goncalves (Framingham, Mass./Worcester Academy), Louis Chavez (Porterville, Calif./Northfield Mount Hermon) and Michael Cronin (Wethersfield, Conn./Wethersfield) all buried goals as well in the win for the Lyons. Along with Enman and Blair, Sean Hurlburt (Kingston, Mass./Silver Lake), Liam Daniels (New York, N.Y./Northfield Mount Hermon), Stephan Nkom (Douala, Cameroon/Indian Springs School) and Denes Kostel (New Hyde Park, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) all dished out assists. Daniels led the group with two as he set up Pinski's marker at 39:27 and Goncalves' tally at 40:48.

Wheaton junior goalkeeper Matt Dickey (Newton, Mass./Northfield Mount Hermon) stopped two shots in the opening half, while first-year goalkeeper David Sorkenn (River Edge, N.J./River Dell Regional) compiled three saves in the final stanza to aid the Lyons to their third-straight shutout along with the midfielders and back line. The Blue and White's third-straight shutout which spans from August 30 to September 6 currently ranks seventh all-time in a single-season.

Keene State senior goalkeeper Mike Ketterman (Monson, Mass./Monson) turned away seven shots in the loss. The Owls held a 13-11 advantage in shots and a 7-2 margin in corner kicks.

Wheaton (4-0-0), who improves to 10-6-2 all-time versus the Owls in the series which dates back to 1997, hosts Emmanuel College on Tuesday, September 9 at 4 p.m. Keene State (1-2) travels to Western New England University next Wednesday for a 4 p.m. matchup.
