Gorham, DiNicola-Fawley win in straight sets at No. 1 & No. 2 singles
NORTON, Mass. – The Wheaton College women's tennis team breezed to a 9-0 decision over Emerson College in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action on Tuesday evening at the Clark Tennis Courts.
Junior Izzy Gorham (Durham, N.H./Oyster River) claimed a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 1 singles and classmate Caroline DiNicola-Fawley (Brattleboro, Vt./Brattleboro Union) also posted a 6-0, 6-0 decision at No. 2 singles.
Senior Kathryn Burleson (Osterville, Mass./Cape Cod Academy) turned in a 6-1, 6-0 triumph at the No. 3 position, while first-year Arielle Klopsis (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip) notched her first collegiate win in the No. 4 slot with a 6-0, 6-1 score. The last two singles matches were won by default for the Lyons.
In doubles play, senior Alexandra Marlowe (Mesa, Ariz./Mountain View) and Gorham posted an 8-0 win at No. 1 and Stassy Furber (Montpelier, Vt./Montpelier) and Caroline Stanclift (Camden, Maine/Cushing Academy) claimed an identical decision at No. 2 doubles. The final doubles position was won by default.
Wheaton (4-2, 4-0 NEWMAC) travels to Williams College for the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Regional Tournament this weekend. Emerson (0-5, 0-4 NEWMAC) hosts Clark University for a conference matchup this Saturday at 1 p.m.
