Women's Tennis Blanks Colby-Sawyer, 9-0

Lyons improve to 13-4 overall on the season

NORTON, Mass. – The Wheaton College women's tennis team posted a 9-0 decision against Colby-Sawyer College at the Clark Tennis Courts on Saturday afternoon.

In doubles play, junior co-captain Alexandra Marlowe (Mesa, Ariz./Mountain View) and senior co-captain Lyndsay Cooke (Bakersfield, Calif./Bakersfield Christian) claimed an 8-2 victory at No. 1. Freshman Amanda Brazell (Las Vegas, Nev./The Meadows School) and senior Morgan Bell (Gloucester, Mass./Pingree School) picked up an 8-1 decision at No. 2, while seniors Sarah Crom (Bremen, Germany/International School of Bremen) and Jessica Moore (Middletown, R.I./The Prout School) did not drop a single set at the No. 3 position.

Marlowe went on to take her No. 1 singles match in straight sets, while Cooke turned in a 6-1, 6-0 triumph at No. 2. Brazell breezed to a 6-1, 6-0 decision at No. 3 and Bell, who was slotted in the No. 4 position, cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 win.

Crom and sophomore Izzy Gorham (Durham, N.H./Oyster River) rounded out singles play at No. 5 and No. 6, respectively, with straight set victories.

Wheaton (13-4) concludes its 2013-14 season tomorrow on the road against Oneonta St. at 1 p.m. Colby-Sawyer (10-7) hosts Simmons College tomorrow at 3 p.m.
