Women's Tennis Defeats Charleston (W.V.), 7-2

Bell, Brazell, Cooke and Crom all double-winners

PLANT CITY, Fla.  – The Wheaton College women's tennis team began the spring portion of its 2013-14 season with a 7-2 victory over Charleston (W.V.) on Sunday afternoon at Hillsborough Community College.

Senior Morgan Bell (Gloucester, Mass./Pingree School), freshman Amanda Brazell (Las Vegas, Nev./The Meadows School) and seniors Lyndsay Cooke (Bakersfield, Calif./Bakersfield Christian) and Sarah Crom (Bremen, Germany/International School of Bremen) were all double-winners for the Lyons.

Cooke posted a 6-0, 6-1 triumph at No. 2 singles to go along with an 8-4 victory at No.1 doubles with teammate Alexandra Marlowe (Mesa, Ariz./Mountain View). Bell and Brazell secured a No. 2 doubles win by an 8-6 score, while Bell turned in a 6-2, 2-6, 10-8 victory at No.4 singles and Brazell breezed to a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 3.

Crom and sophomore Izzy Gorham (Durham, N.H./Oyster River) helped Wheaton sweep doubles play with an 8-4 decision at No. 4. Crom went on to post a 6-2, 2-6, 6-0 victory at No. 5 singles to round out the list of winners for the Lyons.

Wheaton (11-3) takes on Northwestern (Minn.) tomorrow at 8 a.m. in Plant City, Fla. at Hillsborough Community College.
