Lyons 30-0-3 all-time at Mirrione Stadium in NEWMAC Tournament games under coach Reis (18 years)

NORTON, Mass. – The Wheaton College women's soccer team advanced to the conference tournament semifinal round for the 20th straight season with a 2-0 win over WPI in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Tournament quarterfinal round on Tuesday afternoon at Mirrione Stadium.

Junior forward Julia Cipriano (Middlebury, Conn./Pomperaug) notched the game-winning goal for the fourth-seeded Lyons in the ninth minute of the contest with a shot from the top left corner of the box that bounced over the dive of Engineers' sophomore goalkeeper Abbey Teliska (LaGrangeville, N.Y./Arlington) and into the back of the net for her eighth goal of the season.

Sophomore back Sydney Ferrell (Pasadena, Calif./Orange Lutheran) added the all-important insurance goal for Wheaton at the 74:15 mark with a header off of a corner kick taken by Cipriano. Ferrell notched her first goal of the season (second career) by being positioned directly in front of the middle of the net.

Teliska finished the contest with seven saves, just one shy of her season-high in 2014, while Lyons' junior goalkeeper Ali Hinton (Lafayette, Colo./Alexander Dawson School) made two stops in the win (11-4-1). Hinton also picked up her eighth clean sheet this season (12th career) and is now tied with Jessica Johnson '98 for sixth all-time on the career wins list with 24 total.

Teliska shined in the second half for the Engineers despite giving up the insurance goal in the 75th minute to Ferrell. In the 60th minute, Teliska robbed Wheaton junior back Allison Lizotte (Forestdale, Mass./Sandwich) of a goal by punching her scoring attempt off the crossbar to keep the game 1-0 at the time. Teliska also made an athletic diving stop on a shot destined for the upper right corner of the net on sophomore Kaitlin Montoya (Placentia, Calif./Orange Lutheran) in the 80th minute.

WPI's best chance to score came at the 68:47 mark when Sophie Gomarlo's (Swanzey, N.H./Northfield Mount Hermon) shot ricocheted past Hinton and started dribbling towards an empty goal, but Wheaton junior back Julie Beyar (South Hempstead, N.Y./South Side) came off her line quickly and cleared the ball out of harm's way.

Wheaton outshot WPI, 18-9, and also held an 8-2 differential in corner kicks.

With today's win, the Lyons are now 30-0-3 in conference tournament games at Mirrione Stadium under head coach Luis Reis (18 years) and 47-4-4 all-time in postseason games at home.

Wheaton (13-6-2) travels to first-seeded MIT (14-3-2) on Saturday, November 8 for its NEWMAC Tournament semifinal matchup at 11 a.m. WPI concludes its season at 8-7-4 overall, while having claimed a winning record in back-to-back seasons for only the third time in program history and first time since 2003-04.
