Lyons have won six matches in-a-row
NORTON, Mass. – The Wheaton College women's tennis team continued its winning ways on Tuesday evening against Emerson College downing the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference's (NEWMAC) newest addition to the conference by a 9-0 score.
Co-captains Lyndsay Cooke (Bakersfield, Calif./Bakersfield Christian) and Alexandra Marlowe (Mesa, Ariz./Mountain View) were both double winners along with senior Morgan Bell (Gloucester, Mass./Pingree School) and freshman Amanda Brazell (Las Vegas, Nev./The Meadows School).
Marlowe and Cooke bested Emerson seniors Lacey Russell (Roswell, Ga./Mount Pisgah Christian) and Savannah Mosser (Malibu, Calif./Malibu) 8-4 at No.1 doubles. Marlowe went on to turn in a 6-3, 6-2 triumph over Russell at No.1 singles, while Cook posted a 6-3, 6-1 victory against Mosser at No.2.
Bell and Brazell defeated juniors Natalie Nicholas (Syosset, N.Y./Syosset) and Jana Winfield (Andover, Mass./Central Catholic) 8-2 in No.2 doubles action. Bell also turned away Nicholas in straight sets at No.3 singles and Brazell breezed to a 6-1, 6-0 win over Winfield at No.4 singles.
Wheaton senior Jessica Moore (Middletown, R.I./The Prout School) and sophomore Izzy Gorham (Durham, N.H./Oyster River) rounded out doubles play with a quick 8-0 victory against Emerson's Madeline Bilis and Nora Gonzales.
Senior Sarah Crom (Bremen, Germany/International School of Bremen) defeated Bilis by scores of 6-0, 6-0 at No.5 singles and junior Kathryn Burleson (Osterville, Mass./Cape Cod Academy) notched a 6-0, 6-1 victory versus Gonzales at No.6 singles.
Wheaton (6-0, 4-0 NEWMAC) returns to action on Friday, September 27-29 at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Regional Tournament at Williams College. Emerson (0-6, 0-4 NEWMAC) visits Clark University for a conference matchup at 1 p.m. on Saturday, September 28.
