Lyons score 17-straight goals in victory

WELLESLEY, Mass. – The Wheaton College women's lacrosse team used a dominating performance to upend Wellesley College, 17-4, on Tuesday afternoon in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) contest.

Junior Leila Mills (Brunswick, Maine/Brunswick) paced the offense with a game-high five markers and two draw controls. Freshman Allie Bush (Kennebunk, Maine/Kennebunk) facilitated play with two goals and a game-high five assists. Classmates Jenna Tewksbury (Concord, Mass./Concord) and Mia Cambi (Longmeadow, Mass./Longmeadow) and senior Amy Moreira (Bristol, R.I./Mount Hope) all contributed three goals apiece.

Wellesley junior Brit Mscisz (Topsfield, Mass./Pingree School) opened up the scoring at 28:56 of the first half with her first of three goals on the evening. Sophomore Claire Canty (East Rockaway, N.Y./Sacred Heart Academy) added the Blue's only other marker at 1:53 of the second half.

After Mscisz gave Wellesley a 1-0 lead at 28:56, Wheaton's offense took over burying 17-straight goals during a span of 46 minutes and four-seconds of action that stretched into the final stanza. Mills registered four tallies, Moreira had three goals and Cambi and Tewksbury found the back of the net twice, respectively, to guide the Lyons 11-0 to close out the first 30 minutes of play.

Sophomore Melanie Sharick (Amherst, Mass./Amherst) led all players with six draw controls, Moreira collected four and Mills notched two. Wheaton sophomore goalkeeper Katy Ananian (Belmont, Mass./Belmont) stopped a game-high six shots to bump her record to 6-3 on the season. Wellesley junior goalkeeper Tori Hysko (Reisterstown, Md./St. Paul's School for Girls) made three saves in the loss.

The Lyons won the ground balls matchup, 12-11, and also the draw controls battle, 14-9.

Wheaton (6-4, 4-0 NEWMAC) visits Tufts University on Thursday, April 11 for a non-conference game at 4:30 p.m. The Lyons are the only remaining team in the NEWMAC with an unblemished conference record. Wellesley (6-5, 1-2 NEWMAC) travels to Springfield College for a NEWMAC contest on Saturday, April 13 at 11:00 a.m.
