Lyons snap Gulls four-match winning streak

NORTON, Mass. – The Wheaton College women's tennis team came up just short in its match against Endicott College as the Gulls defeated the Lyons, 5-4, in non-conference action on Tuesday evening at the Clark Tennis Courts.

Sophomore Alexandra Marlowe (Mesa, Ariz./Mountain View) and junior Lyndsay Cooke (Bakersfield, Calif./Bakersfield Christian) were both double winners for Wheaton.

Marlowe and Cooke turned aside Endicott's No.1 doubles team of sophomores Chrissy Martel (Westbrook, Conn./Westbrook) and Natalie Egbert (Gorham, Maine/Gorham), 8-0. Cooke defeated junior Emilie Cloutier (Lewiston, Maine/Lewiston), 6-0, 6-0, at No.1 singles and Marlowe earned a 6-3, 6-1 triumph against Martel at No.2.

Junior Jessica Moore (Middletown, R.I./The Prout School) picked up the Lyons only other win at No.5 singles with a 1-6, 7-6 (7-1), 10-4 decision over senior Rachel Fenstermaker (Somerset, Mass./Somerset).

Wheaton (10-7, 4-3 NEWMAC) wraps up its season with a road match against Colby-Sawyer on Sunday, April 21 at 11 a.m. Endicott (17-3) travels to Salem State University on Thursday, April 25 at 3:30 p.m.
