Cooke, Marlowe win at No.1/No.2 singles
HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Wheaton College women's tennis team, ranked no. 20 overall in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Northeast Region rankings, dropped a 6-3 decision to the University of Charleston (W.V.) on Wednesday afternoon.
Junior Lyndsay Cooke (Bakersfield, Calif./Bakersfield Christian) and sophomore Alexandra Marlowe (Mesa, Ariz./Mountain View) teamed up for a No.1 doubles victory and also won their respective singles matches.
Cooke defeated sophomore Kelsey Hensley (Ashland, K.Y.) by a score of 6-2, 6-2 and Marlowe posted a 6-1, 6-2 triumph over freshman Ann Maria Pena (Bogota, Columbia). In No.1 doubles play, Cooke and Marlowe turned aside the team of Hensley and junior Madeline Caropino (Temecula, Calif.) with an 8-2 victory.
The Lyons (9-6, 4-3 NEWMAC) will take a ten-day hiatus from competition before they host the Wheaton Invitational on Sunday, March 24 at 10:00 a.m.
