Box Score Nordin Field officially dedicated

NORTON, Mass. – The Wheaton College field hockey team fell to Springfield College, 4-0, in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) matchup on Saturday afternoon at Nordin Field.
Prior to the contest, Wheaton College held a ribbon cutting ceremony for Diane C. Nordin '80 Athletic Field. The ribbon cutting took place at the center of the turf with Diane C. Nordin '80 and her husband Tom Kelleher doing the honors. Nordin Field is named after Diane C. Nordin '80, who provided the lead gift to fund the project.
Nordin Field is a multi-purpose venue utilizing Shaw Legion 46 synthetic turf. The facility is adorned with a brand new multi-purpose scoreboard for field hockey, soccer, lacrosse and rugby. Nordin Field is equipped with state-of-the-art lighting for night games, as well as, club and intramural sports. In addition to the varsity sports, Wheaton's men's and women's rugby teams also utilize the field as their home venue.
Springfield received goals from four different scorers as sophomore Olivia Cabral (Sayville, N.Y./Louisville), junior Sarah Ducharme (Dudley, Mass./Notre Dame Academy), freshman Tori Stollmer (Hopewell Junction, N.Y./John Jay) and junior Linnea Quist (New Preston, Conn./Shepaug Valley) all found the back of the cage.
Wheaton senior goalkeeper Ellie Massengill (Amherst, Mass./Amherst Regional) turned aside a game-high eight saves in the loss, while Pride freshman goalkeeper Juliana Barrasso (Bayport, N.Y./Bayport Blue Point) made five saves in her first-career shutout.
Springfield surged out to an early 2-0 advantage on tallies from Cabral at the 17:27 mark and Ducharme at 19:25. Cabral opened up the scoring on a beautiful give-and-go marker set up by senior MK Murray (Killingworth, Conn./Haddam-Killingworth) for her fourth goal of the season. Two minutes and two seconds later, Ducharme deposited her first goal of the year off of a rebound.
Murray went on to assist the next two goals for the Pride. Murray fed Stollmer with a crisp pass at the 26:24 mark near the left side of the cage to close out the scoring in the first stanza and also had her shot at 65:02 redirected into the goal by Quist.
Wheaton (4-8, 0-3 NEWMAC) travels to MIT on Tuesday, October 8 for a NEWMAC clash at 6 p.m. Springfield (2-7, 1-2 NEWMAC) visits Castleton on Wednesday, October 9 at 4 p.m.
