Lyons fall to 4-2 in the NEWMAC

NORTON, Mass. – The Wheaton College women's tennis team was dealt an 8-1 setback by MIT on Saturday afternoon at the Clark Tennis Courts in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action.

Junior co-captain Alexandra Marlowe (Mesa, Ariz./Mountain View) picked up the Lyons only win in the contest defeating MIT senior Lauren Quisenberry (Corpus Christi, Texas/Gregory-Portland) by a 6-7 (2-7), 0-1 score. Quisenberry retired after one game in the second set.

The Engineers had three double-winners on the afternoon including freshman Elysa Kohrs (Half Moon Bay, Calif./Sacred Heart Prep), sophomore Victoria Tam (Rolling Hills Estates, Calif./Palos Verdes Penninsula) and freshman Krystal Lai (Irvine, Calif./University).

Kohrs and Tam teamed up for an 8-1 victory over Wheaton freshman Amanda Brazell (Las Vegas, Nev./The Meadows School) and senior Sarah Crom (Bremen, Germany/International School of Bremen) at No.2 doubles, while Tam also bested Brazell 6-3, 6-3 at No.3 singles. Kohrs defeated Lyons' senior Morgan Bell (Gloucester, Mass./Pingree School) in straight sets at No.2 singles.

Lai turned in an 8-1 decision over Bell and fellow senior Jessica Moore (Middletown, R.I./The Prout School) with teammate Michelle Dutt (Gurnee, Ill./Warren Township) at No.3 doubles and also downed Crom in straight sets at No.4 singles.

Wheaton (6-2, 4-2 NEWMAC) travels to Babson College for a NEWMAC clash on Tuesday, October 8 at 3:30 p.m. MIT (7-0, 7-0 NEWMAC) hosts Tufts University in a non-conference match on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
