Box Score Lyons' scoreless streak moves to 488:15
NORTON, Mass. – The Wheaton College women's soccer team increased its scoreless streak to 488 minutes and 15-seconds with a 2-0 triumph over Clark University on "Senior Day" at Mirrione Stadium in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) tilt.
Prior to the contest, seniors Rachelle Rodman (Fair Oaks, Calif./Bella Vista), Kristina Braga (Lowell, Mass./Lowell) and Abby Tobin (Lynnfield, Mass./Lynnfield) were all honored for their contributions towards the women's soccer program.
In the 39th minute, Wheaton junior Gabriella Verde (Miami, Fla./Gulliver Prep) sniped home a free kick into the upper right corner of the net to give the Lyons an early 1-0 advantage in the contest. Rodman added an insurance goal in the 56th minute heading home a corner kick off the foot of junior midfielder/forward Lauren Corigliano (Roselle Park, N.J./Roselle Park).
Rodman's marker was her first of the season, while Verde notched her eighth of the year and second game-winner in 16 games played this season (all starts).
Lyons' sophomore goalkeeper Taylor Wilson (Bellingham, Mass./Bellingham) aided the Blue and White to their fifth consecutive shutout with three saves. Cougars' sophomore goalkeeper Gabby Paolini (North Potomac, Md./Quince Orchard) stopped a game-high five shots in the loss.
Wheaton recorded a 19-12 differential in shots, 13 coming in the first stanza, and a slim 3-2 margin in corners. The Lyons have not allowed a goal since the 52nd minute of their 3-1 loss to MIT on Tuesday, October 8. Since then, the Blue and White have outscored their opponents 15-0 during its 488:15 scoreless streak.
Wheaton (12-5-1, 7-1-0 NEWMAC) hosts Babson College in a NEWMAC contest on Tuesday, October 29 at 3 p.m. Clark (4-12, 1-7 NEWMAC) travels to WPI on Tuesday for a conference clash at 7 p.m.
